Gravel can take on many forms, and you want to be prepared for whatever comes at you. That said, it’s easier to prepare for terrain you’ll be on 80% of the time, with some concessions that alleviate risk of discomfort on the terrain you’ll encounter 20% of the time.

I noticed that some routes I'd have thought to be about 90% paved and 10% gravel were more like 60% gravel 40% paved. I can't believe how far off my guesses were.
